Press Release
1 June 2009

Incident: 09-1919

Criminal Mischief

Charges have been filed with MDJ Shoemaker’s Office for Criminal Mischief stemming from a previous incident where air was removed from the tires of 44 school buses.  The buses are owned by Durham School Services and provide transportation to all of the Spring Grove School District.

Charged with Criminal Mischief to Automobiles is:

1) Corey Kopp, 18 YOA, Chesapeake Estates, Thomasville, PA

2) Cody Lauchman, 18 YOA, 9000 blk. Orchard Rd., Spring Grove

Both are senior students at the Spring Grove High School

Between the hours of May 31, 2009 4:00 pm and June 1, 2009, 5:00 am, the two subjects entered the bus parking lot at 210 East Railroad St., Spring Grove, PA.  They removed the tire valve stems thereby allowing the tires to deflate and making the buses inoperative.  In that there were only five (5) buses still operative, this incident caused the entire school district to delay all classes in the district by two (2) hours on June 1.  The costs of the incident are still being tallied but to date, cost of employee overtime and cost of firms to get the buses operative again, are at least several thousand dollars.

The information that led to charges in this case came from persons in the community and school district personnel.
