Date of Incident: 09 October 2007
Time of Incident: 0217hrs

A motorist fled from officers, on foot,  by scaling a roof of a home.  He was later taken into custody at his home.

At 0217 hrs. this date, Ofr. Shaun Dickmyer of this department went to stop a motorist for a traffic violation near the intersection of Green Valley Rd. and Seven Valleys Rd (SR 616), Seven Valleys, North Codorus Twp.

The motorist instead fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed.  The officer followed and observed the vehicle drove up a driveway at 3447 Shaffer’s Church Rd., Codorus Twp. (PA State Police jurisdiction).  There, the defendant “disappeared”.  Later information revealed that the defendant had pulled himself up on the roof of the home at that residence.  The driver then ran across the roof and jumped from the roof of the home in the rear and fled on foot into a wooded area.

It soon became apparent that the homeowner did not know the motorist as he met with the officers to ascertain what was occurring.  He advised that he was awakened by the sounds of footsteps on his roof and a loud “thud” as the defendant apparently jumped onto the ground in the rear.

The officers ascertained the identity of the motorist with information at the scene.  The PA State Police did make contact with the fleeing motorist at his home where he was taken into custody.  The defendant was asked why run over instead of around the home but he did not explain other than “he felt like it.” It is unknown if the defendant has any formal gymnastic training.

Arrested was W/M, Joel D. Aiken, 3390 Catholic Valley Rd., Glen Rock, PA DOB, 01-15-86.     Charges are: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – M1, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer F3, & Traffic Infractions. Southern Regional Police K-9 unit assisted along with the PA State Police.
