13 March 2010 Incident: 10-0933
Suspicious Package
Officers of the
Southwestern regional Police Department were dispatched at
approximately 3:45 p.m. today to the Spring Grove Post
Office, 55 West Jackson Street in Spring Grove, for a
suspicious package.
The package was
left in the drive-up letter box located along Elm Avenue,
outside the Post Office facility, approximately 10-15 feet
from the building. The package was dropped in the box
between 8 a.m. and approximately 3:20 p.m. today. Post
Office personnel found the package without proper labeling,
shipping information or postage and emitting an audible
“ticking” type of sound.
SWR Police
responded and were assisted by Spring Grove Fire Dept
(Station #4) and Nashville Fire Dept. (Station #11).
Surrounding streets were closed to all traffic and
approximately 12 residences were evacuated as well as a
church and VFW, to ensure public safety.
Postal Inspector
responded and was able to render the item safe. No explosive
materials or related devices were found in the package. It
is unknown who placed the item in the letter box, or their
intentions.
All residents
and motorists were permitted to return to the area by
approximately 6 p.m. today and no one was injured as a
result of this incident.
Anyone with any further information about this incident is asked
to contact Southwestern Regional Police, Det. Sgt. Lisa A.
