Department History
Southwestern Regional Police Department has been in existence since July 1,
2002. The Department originally began as a compilation of three township
police departments, those being Heidelberg, Manheim, and North Codorus.
On April 1 of 2003, the Borough of Spring Grove also began receiving police
service from our department. The department covers an area of 71 square
miles and provides service to 17,000 residents, extending from south of York
City to the Maryland State line. There are eight (8) Police Board
Members, two (2) from each of the four (4) communities. We believe that we
have already achieved many of our original goals of a regional department;
that being pulling together municipalities and resources in order to enhance
police service in a fiscally responsible manner. The details of our
efforts include providing a wide variety police services over an entire
region, thereby enhancing services to that area. Prior to July 1, 2002,
the area did not enjoy 24-hour coverage by the listed departments. The
Pennsylvania State Police supplemented these services, making the coverage
less uniform. Our thirteen officers and one police administrator,
provide these services in a highly efficient manner.
The three stars on our patch represent the three original
townships that we patrolled when the department first began providing
police coverage. The yellow sun burst with "2002" represents the
year the department was formed.
